Your domain name is your unique name for your web site. You must register your domain name with an accredited registrar to reserve the right to use the unique name you have selected. Before you can register your domain name, you must check to see if your name is available. You can do this by accessing the database at http://internic.net, or with the company who will register your domain name for you. The minimum initial registration period used to be for 2 years initially, but some extensions may now be registered for 1 year initially. The original domain names ended with .com, .net or .org, but new extensions are being added all the time. Some of the newer extensions now available include .biz, .info, .tv and .us.
